Boca Raton, FL – Boca West Country Club presented keys to a new Habitat for Humanity home to the deserving mother and daughter team, Ilomane Brivaus and Jessie Demesmin.  The dream home, located in Delray Beach, was built entirely by a team of women, lead by 2019 Women Build co-chairs Beverly Raphael Altman and her daughter Robyn Raphael-Dynan.

This is the tenth house that Boca West Country Club members have sponsored for Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County, providing affordable homes earned by a hard-working family.

“Boca West has established a legacy of investing in community programs that have the power to change lives,” said Matthew Linderman, CCM, President and COO at Boca West Country Club. “Habitat for Humanity supports families by building new homes that not only beautify neighborhoods, but also the future generations of families who work to earn them.”

Ilomane Brivaus escaped Haiti after living under the dangerous rule of Baby Doc in Haiti, traversing the open Atlantic Ocean in a sailboat for 10 days, at the age of 22.  She married young and had three children, Gardine, Topher and Jessie.  After her marriage did not work out, she raised the three kids on her own, while working for the past 26 years as a housekeeper.  She currently works for Abbey Delray South, a Senior Living Community in Delray Beach.   Her daughter Jesse will live with her and they plan to transform their yard into a garden full of parsley, green onions and avocados.

The team of 2019 Women Builders were made up of more than 125 women who took meaningful action, fundraised, and advocated for good, affordable housing for those less fortunate. Wearing pink hard hats, these women raised hammers and drills and came together to transform the community and build homes for hard-working, local, low income moms and their families.

The dedication was attended by over 50 of the volunteer women, many of whom were Boca West members, who hung drywall, painted, built and laid sod, under the supervision of construction professionals, for the Brivaus/Demesmin home for a block of impact in Delray Beach. Guests, friends, pro-bono contributors, volunteers, and senior staff from Habitat for Humanity enjoyed tours and refreshments with the new homeowners.

The Brivaus/Demesmin family put in 500 hundred hours of “sweat equity” working on their home throughout the construction process along with Habitat volunteers. The family also met the Habitat homeowner requirements of attending workshops that address financial literacy, cleanliness and home maintenance, effective parenting, hurricane preparation, energy conservation, and more.

The mother-daughter Women Build Co-Chairs, Beverly Raphael Altman and Robyn Raphael Dynan, announced that they would co-chair 2020 Women Build, happening in May.

Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1991 and supports the communities of Boca Raton, Boynton Beach and Delray Beach. The Habitat process goes back to the traditional values of reward through effort. Each partner family is required to pay back the actual cost of the home through a non-interest-bearing mortgage, with monthly payments of principal, taxes, and insurance. The system is designed to build self-esteem in the partner families.
