Menstrual Man

March 27 @ 1:00 pm

Think Out Loud 2020 – A selection of curated films and discussion programs on today’s issues for people who want to know more. A film by Amit Virmani. Husks, sand, dirty rags, and even ash! Muruganantham was an illiterate school dropout. After discovering his wife’s rudimentary means of managing her periods, he rolled up his sleeves and went on a quest to provide low cost sanitary towels to rural Indian women. At first he was labelled a pervert and shunned, now he is hailed as a visionary around the world. This is an inspiring and extraordinary story of the unlikeliest of heroes whose eccentricity has led to the empowerment of girls and women across the country. Not rated; runtime: 63 mins. This event will include a community report back from The Kenya Library Project team that distributed washable, eco-friendly, sustainable menstrual hygiene kits to girls in Kenya in February. General discussion to follow. Please register; free. Walk-ins welcome! Think Out Loud 2020 is a partnership between the Delray Beach Public Library and St. Paul’s Mission and Outreach to offer thought-provoking programs on today’s most challenging social issues. Look for two programs each month (one at each location) from January through April. March theme: Global Education and Empowerment for Girls.
