Virtual Holiday Concert Play-Along Sing-Along

December 13, 2020 @ 3:00 pm

The Florida Intergenerational Orchestra is pleased to announce a virtual holiday concert on Sunday, December 13th at 3:00 P.M. The orchestra wants to keep everyone in the holiday spirit even in the midst of a pandemic that is gripping the country. We are trying to find ways to stay together since many of us are yearning for connection. For musicians it is the musical bonds that need to continue. The way to do it….A few prominent members of the orchestra will perform socially distanced wearing masks live in Lorraine Marks’ patio. Jim Gaskill .violin, Shana Gaskill cello, Lorraine Marks-Field viola, and Bob Field, piano will be performing. There will be a visit from a resident of the North Pole. From the comfort of your home you can participate or just enjoy the sounds of the Holidays, Christmas and Hanukah. This virtual home concert is open to the general public as well as orchestra members, family and friends of the orchestra. Join us for this innovative and moving concert experience.

What do you need to do: Just send us an e-mail at Strings4all@aol.com, tell us what instrument you will be playing and we will send you the music so you can play along with the four of us, and/or sing your Christmas or Hanukah favorites. If you are singing we will send you the lyrics. If you are playing an exotic instrument you may have to improvise.

Why this will work. Anyone experienced with Zoom realizes that the sound never arrives at the exact same time for everyone so if we try to play together as a large group, all you end up with is muddled sound. But if you are playing along with us, your ZOOM mike is off and there will be no distortion. Instead each of you will have your own unique quintet. It should work out just fine on either facebook live or zoom. But you have to e-mail us to get the zoom password and the music/lyrics.

Highlights of the program include: White Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Dreidel Song, Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah, Let There Be Peace on Earth . These are just a few of the Holiday Gems that will be performed. Our program appeals to an audience of all ages..

Over the years the orchestra has become very creative, offering selections from a wide genre of music and developing a reputation for creating an incredibly good time for all who attend its concerts. The audiences tend to have a congeniality and warmth to it that allow everyone to feel good at the conclusion of the programs. The orchestra has even created its own coloring book, “Let’s Color the Music” which is available to the public for a small contribution to this 501(c) 3 community orchestra.
