Boca Raton, FL – The SYMPHONIA, South Florida’s world-class chamber orchestra, will showcase the many roles that women have played in classical music throughout its 2019-2020 Marleen Forkas Connoisseur Concert Series. Each performance will feature either a female Guest Conductor and/or Soloist or works created by female composers.
The second performance of the series, “A Passion for Italy,” takes place on Sunday, January 5, at 3:00 p.m., and will feature Carolyn Kuan as Guest Conductor and Daniel Andai as Violin Soloist. The concert takes place at Roberts Theater at Saint Andrew’s School, 3900 Jog Road, Boca Raton, and includes a Pre-Concert Conversation with the conductor at 2 p.m.
“Women have made, and continue to make, incredible contributions to classical music, and we are just thrilled to have an opportunity to showcase these talented artists,” said Annabel Russell, The Symphonia’s Executive Director.
Pieces to be performed include:
ASSAD Suite for Lower Strings
HAYDN Concerto for Violin in C
MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 4
Tickets prices range from $67 – $84 per person, and are available at thesymphonia.org, by calling 561-376-3848, or by emailing tickets@thesymphonia.org.
Pre-Concert Conversations:
A Pre-Concert Conversation hosted by the guest conductor or a speaker is offered on the day of each Connoisseur Concert, from 2-2:30 p.m., so ticket holders can learn more about the pieces to be performed that afternoon. Free for concert ticket holders.
Meet the Orchestra
Meet the Orchestra is an interactive program for children, their parents, and their grandparents, exploring music and its instruments. It’s a fun way to introduce kids (and their parents) to classical music! The program takes place from 10:30 am-12 noon on Saturday, January 4. Kids will learn about the ways that composers communicate their musical ideas to musicians. They will hear Daniel Andai perform Concerto for Violin in C, and have an opportunity for a Q&A. The program will conclude with a musical game and snack. $5 for adults and free for kids.
